sangeet ka safar

On his 30th death anniversary

My Dear Friends,
Today is July 31st...the most inauspicious day for music-lovers and the music world. This is the day when Rafi Sahab left us 30 years ago.
He was no doubt a boon from the God to mankind.
He himself was not less than a saint...perhaps the noblest man on earth.
Nobody is been remembered and loved after 30 long years of his death.
But the entire world still remembers him and loves him.
This is not less than a miracle...miracle of his golden voice.

He said...MUJHKO MERE BAAD ZAMANA DHOONDEGA...

Mohd. Rafi still lives in hearts of all music lovers. 30 years has gone after his demise. Every day we remember and hearing his songs. Even after 300 years, his songs will remain evergreen.

Sharing a melodious but relatively unheard Rafi song that I had quietly discovered on a previous anniversary of the great man.
The all-but-forgotten GS Kohli composes yet another song for Rafi that I love to revisit.

Quaintly picturized on Dara Singh and team.

Watching this reminded me of those carefree summer afternoons that would be dominated by Sindbad, Haroun-al-Rashid and the roc. :)

There was a small article in THE TIMES OF INDIA yesterday. Amin Sayani described Rafisaab as a very shy person who used to stay away even from interviews. On much persuasion by Amin Sayani he finally agreed but on a condition that he would have to frame his questions such that he could answer them with his song lines. After much hard work he finally drafted his questionaire for the unique and extraordinary interview. But before he could conduct this interview, Rafisaab passed away.
