Naushad…the very name evokes memories of lilting, haunting tunes and beautiful lyrics. Naushad saab's name is inextricably entwined with the Mumbai film industry and its music.Naushad is regarded as one of the greatest Music Directors of Indian Cinema. Naushad was born in Lucknow in 1919 in an orthodox family that had no interest, whatsoever, in music. But Naushad knew that he was different. As a child he used to watch a film several times, not for the movie itself, but for the live band that accompained the songs and dances on the screen.
He was one of the first to introduce sound mixing and the separate recording of voice and music tracks in playback singing. He was the first to combine the flute and the clarinet, the sitar and mandolin. He also introduced the accordion to Bollywood film music and was among the first to concentrate on background music to extend characters’ moods and dialogue through music. But perhaps his greatest contribution was the distinction of familiarizing the common man with Indian classical ragas ranging from Afsana likh rahi hoon… from Dard and Man tarpat… (rendered by Rafi) from Baiju Bawra to Pyar kiya to karna kya… in Mughal-e-Azam and Ek shahenshah ne… in Leader. Many of his compositions were inspired by Ragas and he even used distinguished classical artistes like Amir Khan and D.V. Pulaskar in Baiju Bawra (1952) and Bade Ghulam Ali Khan in Mughal-e-Azam (1960). Baiju Bawra (1952) demonstrated Naushad's grasp of classical music. Thespian Dilip Kumar has the unique distinction of being the hero who sung on the silver screen for most of the songs composed by Naushad. Today, the veteran actor is eternally grateful to Naushad because these songs helped him carve a permanent niche on the silver screen. He was conferred with Dada Sahab Phalke Award in 1981 and Padma Bhusan in 1992. Btw i checked out that these two songs were probably not in the film and were released later by the record company as unreleased songs of Naushad saab.That's why i didn't include them in my list as i wasn't sure whether they belonged to the same film or not. Here I am uploading the songs from the third album of Naushaad Saab DARSHAN-1941. Unfortunately I dont have the details of the first song. I have two songs missing from my collection which are marked red. I request the music lovers of the forum to kindly upload the same if somebody has it.
